ABOUT THE IMAGE: Original Production Drawing from Care Bears Season 3, Episode 13 "Dr. Brightenstein's Monster" (1988). In this story told by Grams Bear, Bright Heart Raccoon plays the part of Dr. Frankenstein, with Grumpore (Grumpy Bear) as his assistant. A certificate of authenticity is included with this artwork.

ABOUT THE EPISODE: In this Nelvana Studio Production, the story takes place in Carenburge, where Dr. Brightenstein, portrayed by Brightheart Racoon, and his assistant Grumpore, played by Grumpy Bear, struggle to fit in. The other Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins are wary of them, as they spend most of their time conducting experiments in their castle. Feeling lonely, Dr. Brightenstein and Grumpore create a friend with a candy heart made of sugar.

However, Hair Beastly, played by Beastly himself, is furious with Dr. Brightenstein and Grumpore for exposing his fraudulent practices at his store. Seeking revenge, he plans to sabotage one of their experiments. Discovering that their latest experiment is the new friend, he spreads rumors that they have created a monster.

Meanwhile, the friend, mistaken for a monster, wanders away from the castle and befriends Baby Hugs and Baby Tugs. As they play near the river, Baby Hugs falls in, and the friend heroically jumps in to save her. The villagers, arriving just in time to witness the scene, mistakenly believe the friend pushed Baby Hugs into the river.

Once Baby Hugs reveals the truth, the townspeople apologize for their false accusations. Dr. Brightenstein and Grumpore then expose Hair Beastly's scam, leading to his capture. The villagers finally accept Dr. Brightenstein and Grumpore, learning the important lesson: "Don't be afraid of someone just because they're different."
